The Creedal Imperative by Carl Trueman

Dr. Carl Trueman gives the Western Culture Church a great reminder that while we believe Sola Scriptura we must not neglect the Creeds and Catechism's of the past. Yes the Holy Scriptures are our only source of Gods words, commands, covenants and laws, but the Creeds and Catechisms written hundreds of years ago are absolutely amazing in helping us form our Biblical Worl View.

They put into words the lessons of Scripture and our Biblical Moral beliefs that drive us in our growth as Christians. He rightly reminds us that they don't take the place of Scripture, but the prove to be valuable tools in helping us learn about our beliefs and doctrine.

So why don't we use them more often? Because as Trueman shares with us our modern culture tells us that anything "old" is suspect. He uses three areas to help drive this point home. Science lives for the now and the future. While it tries to explain the past it is always pushing forward for "the better."

Technology is another area that says, the future is where it is at. The technology of today will be outdated tomorrow. Your new computer is outdated almost as soon as you get it home and set up.

Finally Materialism hits us with the belief that more things means more happiness. The future with more is better than yesterday with less.

But Creeds and Catechisms remind us that the past is good and profitable for man to remember and learn from. The Bible is as relevant today's as 2,000 years ago.

Trueman drives us back to our core beliefs so that we can live today and the future for God bringing Him honor and glory.

The last part of the book contains the most common Creeds and Catechism to allow you to regain much of what we have lost. You will find yourself using this book over and over again just to go through the Catechism in the back.

Thank you Dr. Trueman for this timely and well written manuscript.
